Re-visit

At the time of writing, I was struggling with my vision. A couple of days prior I broke my left contact lens. Unfortunately, it was the one that is imperative I wear. I can’t wear a right lens without the left, therefore I have no contact lenses in. I thought I had a spare, but I can’t find it anywhere. It will take a week to get a new one. I also can’t wear glasses as they can’t create a pair that put the focal point close to the eye.

In the meantime, I’ve been watching a little bit more tv, regular and subscription. I happen to find myself watching a tv show from the late 90s that I always enjoyed. It is a sci-fi show and I have been thinking about when it was set. It turns out that it’s set about the same time as my sci-fi series.

Whilst mine is less space-based that the tv show, there is still space travel and events that take place on other planets. Even though I have completed the first three books and almost completed the fourth in the series, I find myself thinking about elements in my story that could do with some updating. Not that my tech is wrong, I could certainly enhance my tech as well as add more tech. I’ve also been prompted to think more about the base of the story. How the events in each book relate to that base.

A few years ago, I spent some time working on the back story for the series and the short story that starts each book. What I have missed, in some cases, is making all the events of that book relate to that short story.

Whilst I am still trying to complete the fourth book, I am mentally going over the other three in my mind to see where I need to update and refresh (again). Once I’ve finished the fourth, I will find someone to go over them all for me and make the suggestions required. That could be the hardest part too, as I may not like what they tell me. as a good author, I will take it in my stride, huff and puff for a while then implement the ideas or throw them away.

Sitting and thinking about what I need to do is also very daunting. Seeding my thoughts as I go to sleep hasn’t resulted in any good dreams yet. If there have been, I haven’t been able to remember them, even though I have told myself to do that very thing. It is a challenge and I am looking forward to it. It may take a few months to sort it properly, but the cogs are churning away in the re-write room of my mind. When they have ruminated enough, what needs to happen will burst forth. I just hope I’m ready and can keep up with the flow.

This series started twenty-five years ago and although I released book pone about ten years ago, it has undergone a major overhaul and will be re-released when the series is finished. Then I can release each book in relatively quick succession, knowing the whole story is complete.

Happy writing and happy re-visiting.
