Daunting

Today I began to work on the file that will eventually produce my next book.

Daunting? Why do I think the task is such? Actually, it is and it isn’t.

Since I began my small publishing company over 10 years ago, I have learnt much and continue to learn how best to lay out a book. When I think I have it sorted, something new comes along or I realize I can do it better, or neater, or cleaner. Therefore I change all the settings.

At the moment the task seems daunting because I still work a regular job to pay the bills. Lately (well the past twelve months or so) I have been working almost a full week. This doesn’t give me much time to relax and when I do i push everything else aside to its own detriment.

Being a natural procrastinator, I often have to simply make myself begin a task until it’s completed. This is one of those tasks. Whilst I wont’ push through to completion in one sitting, it will come close. I want to start now, but I also know that in two weeks (from writing this) I will be on a few weeks leave and know I will have the better time to do it.

Today I went back over some files I have already created to make sure they are what I want, so that when i begin to data import and layout, I only have to click a few buttons and it’s done.

I’m sure some of you may be saying to yourselves that it all sounds easy and possibly it is. I know that each time I layout a book it should get easier, but each client is different, as to what they want. Then, when it comes to your own book, then as a client my expectations are even higher.

So, when I get the book back from my beta reader, I will look at the notes, make appropriate adjustments and begin the data import.
